We are right on a main road and only have old jacarandas and pencil pines and a poincianna..the possums love them and birds of course..but no koalas. Hopefully there are still plenty around in the surrounding countryside. It is about time they made sure there are plenty of green corridors around for koalas though.Naturally Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15999271127735997770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-431997613353685105.post-90894204973667844462012-09-18T09:10:23.445+10:002012-09-18T09:10:23.445+10:00Exactly the same grim situation here in the Macedo...Exactly the same grim situation here in the Macedon Ranges Victoria, we used to always hear koalas but now it is a rare treat. I think even dogs out in the day time doesn't help. More clearing, more traffic and more fences means less habitat for the poor critters. So many trees coming down due to drought and then wet conditions too. Such a beautiful creature to lose from our landscape.Kirsty @ Bowerbird Bluehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12511849105347338654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-431997613353685105.post-58949039764039830592012-09-15T08:08:15.888+10:002012-09-15T08:08:15.888+10:00I did know it was Koala month, last year a friend ...I did know it was Koala month, last year a friend of mine Tania McCartney wrote a book Riley & the Curious Koala & % of the proceeds go to Save the Koala. In 1998 I was doing relief teaching in the Redlands schools Circuit and one day during playground duty I saw koalas high up in the trees fast asleep. The students accepted this as normal in their playground! lol It was Coolnwynpin SS and before doing that work I had never heard of it. But it had a big nature reserve next to the school.Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12594244181463706442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-431997613353685105.post-70774624453970971522012-09-13T09:45:30.679+10:002012-09-13T09:45:30.679+10:00How very special to have a koala on your property ...How very special to have a koala on your property and I can understand your concerns about the dwindling population due to urban growth, traffic etc. They are a gorgeous animal.
